Duisburg is always flip-flopping the divisions.

Personally, I don't want St. Pauli to be promoted. I'm worried about what will happen with the inevitable commercialization if they made it to the 1. Bundesliga. The 2. Bundesliga is a better fit.

EDIT: It is exactly because they would be on GOLTV that I wouldn't want them to be promoted. That would completely screw over the club. It's cheaper to watch them online at St. Pauli's website than to dish out for the Bayern-loving GOLTV anyway.

It might be just a dream, but if St Pauli were to be promoted and keep their ethos than maybe they can be an example for clubs to do things the right way? They seem to already have a solid fan base in BL2 and I think that they wouldn't go anywhere with a promotion, so maybe other clubs can follow the example?

Of course that means fuck all if they don't do anything in BL2. Football wise, do you think they'll even contend for the top of the league?

Yes, I'm sure Hamburger Shit-Verein will slash ticket prices, put in standing areas, listen to the community without the pretense of taking their money, and generally end their douche-baggery if the 16k-fan St. Pauli Football Club threatened their 50k-fan megalith in some one-sided super-commercialized football match. *wank* But yes, we can dream.

Last time St. Pauli got promoted, they had to give up their local Astra Brewery sponsorship for some stupid foreign communications company. So what? It's just sponsorship, yes? Who cares if the jerseys now say CONGSTAR instead of ASTRA? See, that's the difference between the big-club fans and St. Pauli fans. HSV would sooner be sponsored by Boeing or Ford Motor Company than lose a cent to a less-lucrative sponsor. And way more than just sponsorship is at stake, that's just an example. I don't really feel like going on about this.

Well, I wasn't referring to teams like HSV changing, but maybe small teams with a certain fan base like Torino, Livorno, etc can stay true to their ethos and be successful.

a sponsorship is a sponsorship-- athletic bilbao has no sponsorship-- i dont see if you have one what the difference is in the sponsor-- you still have a love in to companies.

Well not all clubs can afford to have no sponsorship, but there used to be a time in sports when your sponsor was a community member who cared about the team and its fans (Astra) and not just a detached source of income.

Because our fans can't pay for this stupid new stadium, nevermind everything else. Also, a huge part of the reason the Bundesliga is the "poor league" of Europe has to do with the serious lack of television coverage of the games, so even clubs like FC Bayern struggle to compete for players against the other king clubs. And if St. Pauli starts doing really well, then the players will want more money, and that would just suck.

Me and a few bhoys are thinking of making the trip over for the Hansa Rostock game. They have one of the most fascist supports in Germany and it will be a very interesting trip! *wink*

Do teams like this bring a lot of fash displays and try instigate stuff at the Millenator when they are obviously outnumbered and not in "friendly" territory to say the least?
