ok quick question. what exactly is the affiliation between Celtic and St Pauli. It might be a really stupid question but I don't exactly know why both clubs are that close ?

EDIT : I did read the other thread about that subject, I just dont seem to understand the source of that relationship

I think some St Pauli fans just started following Celtic and made a trip to Celtic park awhile ago is what I understand of it.

It's because, oddly as it sounds at a club founded by Catholics, Celtic and St. Pauli are both left-of-center clubs in the midst of overwhelming right-wing hooliganism threatening the football scene, even though it has died down a bit since the 1980's. The club owners announced this friendship at a meeting in London awhile ago. On the St. Pauli website, you can buy a scarf with one side St. Pauli and the other side Celtic.

By the way, it's my first post here, I'm Graf from the UK St. Pauli fans forum. I live in New York.

EDIT: It's kind of sad that FC Bayern Munich doesn't have a stronger friendship with St. Pauli. Not only have FC Bayern helped out St. Pauli when they needed money (organizing matches for basically nothing, just enough to cover travel), but historically, FC Bayern have been in a much more real leftist dillema than St. Pauli ever will be. FC Bayern used to be headed by a Jew in the 1930's, and the club refused to depose their leader or renounce support, and as a result, FC Bayern was put out of favor by the Nazi Party and shunned as "radicals". TSV 1860 München then came into favor, and was treated much better by the German government even after the war, allowing them to secure a spot in front of Bayern in the original Bundesliga. I'm not an FC Bayern fan by any means, but I would appreciate a more open friendship between the two clubs.

Welcome to the forum mate! Interesting stuff about Bayern and how 1860 was favored where as now Bayern seems to be the big club of Germany.

I'm sticking my neck out on the chopping block by saying, but I'm actually pretty right-wing. I mean in the American sense, not the European fascist sense - I hate those guys. So I would seem like the most unlikely St. Pauli fan, but I have my reasons. If anyone would like to discuss, I'm open on AIM. I don't want to talk about any of this here... Not very appropriate.

Well maybe not this thread of the forum...thus why we created the political forum! (of course if your politics relate to st pauli then simply ignore what I said!) But don't feel you need to be censored because of your beliefs. We might disagree with you but unless you are insulting people, spamming, are a hun, or a fascist you are welcome here.

Put it this way... There are two flags I have hanging above my bed. One belongs to the USMC, the other to St. Pauli. I don't think you can find those flags in closer proximity anywhere else on this planet. I actually have four flags in my room: USMC, St. Pauli, American Flag, and Gadsden Flag (my avatar).

And if you are all 4 we get a good laugh out of you for a day.
