is football being americanized?--i mean as our imperialist culture continues to grow are we influencing football?--how marketized it is now throughout the world--how teams encourage their fans to sit down and shut up and clap at a good play--i mean football was never about those things until america started to dominate the world and became the singular football power--so even though we have little support for football are we influencing it negitively?
Singular football power? I hardly think so.
I don't think it has been americanized or westernized at all. They still light of flares, sing and chant, fight and get drunk as they always did. We're just exposed to the lighter half of it.
And because of the growing support for the MLS teams we're exposed to western support. Look at TFC's fans, the only real atmosphere comes from the Caribbean immigrants when they beat drums and throw streamers. North American football support is tame in nature, because its relatively new. European or South American football support has calmed down, like rut said, because of hooliganism and people getting killed.
