maybe it's because i live in boston, but I know NO ONE that has recently "become" a red sox fan. everyone in Red Sox Nation has grown up supporting the team, grown up with relatives enthralled with the red sox, and grown up through the awful times of red sox fandom (and maybe at times that means reeeeally despising your team).

I can definitely understand how you think this because obviously the majority of red sox fans you probably see arent actually from boston or new england. they're probably all just people who have become discouraged with their city's team and jumped onto the bandwagon of the red sox. it cant be that hard to do, we're a likeable team.


What I cant understand is how red sox fans are glory hunters and yankees fans are not? The yankees have won 26 championships many in the last few decades. The yankees are the manchester united of baseball, they are rich, they win often, they buy the best players, it's understandable why they have so many fans, who doesnt want to be a fan of a team like that. People want to be behind a team like this. Now, im not exactly sure how far red sox nation reaches out but i guarantee more people like the yankees than red sox.

At least from my viewpoint, from living in Boston, from being a real sox fan, I know what real red sox fans are. The ones YOU see (outside of new england no doubt) most likely are glory hunters, but by no means do they constitute %99.999999999 of red sox fans.

from personal experience, i see approximately 50-ish red sox hats, jackets, stickers, etc when traveling about town, compared to about 2 of the same in yankees apparel around b-mo(both barring nights the respective teams are in town, obviously)

in western maryland, i know 2 yankees fans, and in all honesty they are the only people ive seen wear yankees apparel. since graduating high school (2004) ive talked to to over 10 people that i knew before that world series who claimed they had become fans since the sox victory. i also know 2 people who claim they've always been sox fans, just chose not to show it in the 7 or 8 years ive known them

this isnt the worst tho......when i went to college (again, 2004) it was the fall before the sox won it all, i literally did not see a single person sporting sox apparel before the playoffs started, a few once it did, and once they won the series, i shit you not, wal-mart (the only store in town, really) RAN OUT OF RED SOX HATS. im not making this up.

i realize that this might not represent all of america, and im certain doesnt represent boston, but these are just a few of the reasons i see the boston red sox as the anti-christ incarnate

going to school in central pa, seeing all the red sox "fans" is unbelievable. they out number phillies fans.

ANYWAYS, IF THE CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES YOU WILL SEE ALL OF THIS HAPPEN. AND IT WILL BE BEAUTIFUL TO ME.

no fahkin kidding my friend. just like the flowers bloom in spring do people buy merchandise for a team that has recently won. Just like every kid in elementary school had a cowboys starter jacket (remember those? i was poor, didnt follow american football and thus had a carolina panthers one, the suffering!) during the nineties only because they won every year!!! Just like i suddenly started seeing steelers stuff after they recently won. JUST LIKE im sure if the friggin Middleboro Mudskippers somehow made it into the MLB and won the world series thousands of people would commit themselves to being fans and would buy merchandise. It happens with every winning team, every sport, every year. People want to be behind winning teams, can you blame them? By no means does this make them real fans. What you are seeing is exactly what you i am describing but by no means does it mean that they are red sox FANS. Just because what you see in Maryland is these people i have described does not mean every red sox fan is like them. Hell i dont blame the peopl ein Maryland for liking the red sox, we all know how dreadful the orioles are.

the white sox won a world series, the cardinals won a world series, the steelers won a super bowl, the colts won a super bowl, the giants won a super bowl, the spurs won 2 titles, the fucking mavericks even won a title, yet i have not seen ONE MORE jersey since these respective victories than i did beforehand, yet i have seen an approximately 4 billion percent increase in red sox apparel. is that a coincidence?
